I’ve put together a compilation of all of my OFFSIDEsports and StraightJAB cartoons that specifically focus on Trevor Linden including the cartoon commemorating his jersey retirement tonight (DEC 17th, 2008). Trevor Linden is one of the greatest Vancouver Canucks of all time and his number will be only the 2nd retired by the club in it’s 39 year history.

This BLOG is primarily focused on the lighter side of sports. My weekly cartoons take a look at things from a different angle and try to comment on a given issue or find the humor in others. Sports, for so many reasons, can be taken far too seriously and I try to have fun with that.

Today’s news of Luc Bourdon’s sudden and tragic passing really puts all of that into perspective.

Luc was a great young defenceman with the Vancouver Canucks, an up and coming talent who was just beginning to find his stride. My thoughts are with his family, friends and Canucks fans across the globe. I’m sure all sports fans will join me in saying too soon Luc, too soon.

UPDATE: Look for my StraightJAB tribute to Luc next Thursday in June 5th’s Georgia Straight.

That’s a tough one. I figure that Montreal and the NY Rangers will make the Eastern final and that San Jose and Anaheim will make the Western final. From there I think it will be San Jose and the Rangers who make it through that slugfest and I think that the hated (at least here in British Columbia) New York Rangers will pull it out. I think San Jose will be too beaten up and Nabakov too worn out to finish the job. The East is a much easier road, physically, and the defensive minded Rangers with Lundqvist will hoist Lord Stanley. At least that was my theory for my playoff pool.
